Come and Join us For a Great Day Out
We are an independent Museum situated in Huntingdonshire, opened in 1983, and the museum is a real community project-devised by local people. It is managed and run entirely by Volunteers and full of items and exhibits donated by the public.
The museum, housed in 17th century farm buildings, is set in open countryside on the edge of a friendly market town. So why not step back in time and find out how life was lived in small fenland community.
On site there are many areas showing a variety of machinery, implements and vehicles spanning 200 years of rural life.
Our exhibits and displays depict, past working methods, occupations, trades and traditional farming techniques, such as cutting peat, digging ditches, Thatching and being a Blacksmith.
Find out how your medicines would be prepared in our authentic chemist shop and how your shoes would be repaired in our cobblers shop.
Look at the exhibits on the armed forces, police and fire services, in the years gone by. We even have an outside two seater privvy!
Step inside our Victorian Schoolroom, kitchen, bedroom and parlour, which provide a fascinating insight into everyday life at that time.
The museum also houses extensive archives of local family history and the range of paperwork, maps and photographs are available for photocopying. Ramsey and its surrounding villages are also well documented.
Our local family history archive includes:
- Monumental inscriptions
- Photographs
- Census returns
- Maps
- Birth, deaths, marraiges
- Land Deeds
- Microfiche reader
- Photocopying service available
and much more.
We provide light refreshments in our cosy tea-room or alfresco in the courtyard, or if you prefer, bring your own picnic.
Throughout the year we hold many events details of which appear on our Website shown below.
