The Nene-Ouse Link
March is situated on the Old Nene one of Fenlands Waterways. The “Middle Level” Nene – Ouse Navigation Link allows river users an interesting and picturesque view of the region we know as the Fens.
Stanground to Denver
The Link starts at Stanground Lock in the cathedral City of Peterborough on to a lock at the small village of Salter’s Lode close to the Denver Sluice complex. The Link is 28½ miles long and is the recommended route between the rivers Nene and Ouse. The waterway then links with the Great Ouse at Denver from where it is possible to cruise to Ely, Bedford and Cambridge.
The Grand Union Canal
At the Stanground end the link joins with the River Nene which in turn eventually connects with the grand Union Canal. The waterway flows through a number of attractive Fenland towns and villages which hold both historical and visual interest and is ideal for a quiet boating holiday with its glorious scenery and abundant wildlife.
March
March is a convenient and welcoming stopover for boats travelling along this waterway system. There is a 36 hour mooring at the town quay with a sewage pump out and chemical toilet emptying facilities and a fresh water point located nearby. All of this set in attractive surroundings close to the town centre with its shops and park with swimming pool.
Fox's Marina
Fox Boats at March Marina, on the outskirts of the town, have narrow boats for hire as well as temporary and permanent moorings, repair facilities, fuel, slipway and hoist.
Fishing
Fishing in the Fens has always been a tradition. In years gone by as many as 3000 fishermen from Sheffield descended onto March in the fishing
season in one weekend. There are pleasant walks around the river and if you are lucky you may spot a kingfisher or even a water vole. When the sun sets over Fenland you are in for a spectacular treat.
