A fascinating and fun place to visit for all the family

The Museum and Art Gallery will close on 24 December 2010 for redevelopment and it is hoped it will re-open at the end of 2011.

In the meantime, a mobile museum and other community events are planned during the redevelopment.

The Museum Collections

You can see many of these in our fascinating exhibitions and events. They range from the most amazing Napoleonic bone palace to the largest fossil fish, not forgetting the mesmerizing mummified rat! Some of these have remarkable stories behind them, such as that behind our stolen Iron Age Sword.

The collection covers a great range of objects of national and international importance, such as the Norman Cross prisoner of war craft work, the Jurassic marine reptiles , finds from Roman Peterborough and the original manuscripts of the famous poet John Clare. You can also find out about the everyday life of Peterborough's people, past and present through the Social History collection

How to find the museum

Peterborough Museum is situated in Peterborough City Centre, on Priestgate, a minutes walk from the main shopping areas and two minutes walk from the Queensgate shopping centre, the bus station or the railway station.

Peterborough itself is conveniently located just off the A1, and is on the main east coast railway line less than an hour from London. The museum has a small car park which can get quite full, so parking in one of the other city centre car parks is recommended. Disabled car parking spaces are available on site.

Check the map of the Museum's location from Multimap.com or alternatively use the city centre map on our website. If you are using satellite navigation in your vehicle to find us, our postcode is PE1 1LF.
