Ædwen's Brooch

The mystery of Sutton's silver

By Elie Hughes

Ædwen’s brooch was made about a thousand years ago in the Anglo Saxon times.

It is made of silver. It is decorated with animals and plants in a Viking style. The brooch was buried with other treasures in a field in Sutton and discovered by a farmer with a plough. The other treasures were lost over the years, but the brooch is now at the British Museum.

Ædwen, who owned the brooch, was probably a rich lady because the brooch is very expensive.
